In recent years games have been a dominant part of more than a billion people’s lives. These people give their time and energy into gaming while entertaining themselves. There are loads and loads of players playing these games at any given point of time and to benefit from this the game companies also tried to capitalize on it by introducing various DLCs or battlepasses on special occasions of the year. Like Christmas and Halloween. In the gaming space, the companies compete with each other in terms of gaining the players and luring them into their game. They do it by giving their game away for free or by giving features that Their competitor’s games lack.
While there’s a long history of real events in games. There was a time when Fortnite hired Travis Scott to do a literal virtual concert in the game. Call of Duty from time to time also features celebrities’ skins and character outfits. On the other hand, some games only feature religious or cultural events on Their games. So the point of that whole paragraph was to let you know that game studios push updates on certain events and times of the year. For instance, CSGO previously gets updated every Christmas and Halloween, and in this blog, we are going to talk about Dota and its event named “Frostivus”. The last time that Frostivus was hosted in the games was back in 2019 four years ago. There are numerous rumors about its comeback and we are going to talk about them. The time of it’s what is on the way and what the mode will be.
What is Frostivus:
It is an event which is held by Valve in Dota 2 on the day of Christmas. This event was an annual celebration update for Dota 2 players. But for the past 3 years, this event hasn’t been released at all. The last time that Frostivus was featured in Dota 2 was back in 2019 and there could be reasons for that because of the situation of the world after 2019 but since then there has not been any official announcement from Valve that this event is coming back or not as of past this week valve has nothing but confirmed it on their website.
They have made a blog post on the topic “Gameplay Update 7.34e and What’s Up Next” while also thanking the community for their support of The Internationals. As for the event they have not announced which of the specific updates are we getting and what special and rare items we will be getting. The only thing that Valve has confirmed is the existence of it.
Why does this event Matter?:
Now for the part of what is “ Frostivus” why does this matter to the players so much? So here we go. It was an annual event which hasn’t been released in the last 3 years. The last time that a Frostivus was in the game was back in 2019 and since then we have’nt gotten anything in these 3 years until that update which I have just talked about. The players the community and everybody else was putting it behind them like a thing in the past that you just don’t care about anymore But after the announcement by Valve, the community is excited for this event. So previously the event featured was for 15 days and it included a lottery which you can spin after earning enough frostivus points.
In this lottery system, you could pull some good items that you can sell on the Steam market or you could just use them yourself in the game. While it is as good as diamonds it always depends on the quality of the event and how the community receives it.
When is it getting released and How do You Get It:
In the blog post, they have not announced the date on which particular date they are releasing this “frostivus” event But they do have to tell us that it will come in the Later part of December. By going to the last edition of Frostivus it should release in the window of the last 2 weeks of December because the 2019 Frostivus was released from 15 December to January 2 and the other 5 previous were also in the span of dates ranging from December fourteen to December 19 and it’s a good guess for dating the event. The only thing that has a surety in the release date is that it will released in December and possibly at the end of the month. Unlike other events that Valve releases in the game.
The Frostivus is a free-for-all event that will cost you nothing. It is a fairly easy and very simple concept of bringing a free event to gain players and it is used by many other games to regain their player base by giving away free stuff or bringing old events back just like a few days before when Fortnite brought back the first original map back to the game And that move made epic a loads money and gains in the lost players. While Dota is relatively a big game and has by no means lost its players this event will impact the game’s player base and will gain Valve new players for Dota 2.
