About Chapter 5 Season 2 and The Return of Kratos
Released on March 8th, 2024, Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 brought a lot of exciting updates to the game, including the return of the fan-favorite Kratos skin. It made sense because the current season boasts a Greek theme which fits perfectly with Kratos as Greece is his native homeland. Nevertheless, there’s more to it than meets the eye.
Here’s how this all happened and what events made Kratos’ return inevitable.
It all started with Epic Games hinting at a Greek theme by adding a new character called Odyssey NPC at Ruined Reels. Originally, this NPC gave players quests and talked about Greek myths. As such, this made players both confused and excited for whatever was coming next since Epic Games has a habit of teasing players with hints before the main content.
Then, the Devs introduced an in-game event called the “Titan Hand and Pandora’s Box”, which significantly raised the curtains on Epic Games’ intentions. However, things were only getting started. Shortly after this, a survey from Epic Games mentioned “God of War (2005)”.
Now, with Titan Hand and Pandora’s Box recently introduced, this made many people think Kratos is on its way back. On X, formerly Twitter, even Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR talked about this survey, emphasizing that Epic often talks about future collaborations in these surveys. Since this season is all about Greek myths, it makes sense for Kratos to return.
Also, it’s important to note one thing. The Kratos we had before was from the Ragnarök game, released in 2018. The Kratos which we got this time is from the original God of War game, released in 2005. As such, he is much younger now and… maybe stronger?
Although Epic Games originally didn’t say for sure that “Young Kratos” would be in the game, many people thought it would happen because Charlie Wen, who helped make Fortnite, designed this version of Kratos.

Who Is Kratos?

Kratos is one of the most iconic and popular characters in the video game industry. He is the main protagonist of the God of War series, which spans over eight titles and two eras of mythology: Greek and Norse. He is a complex and tragic hero, who struggles with his violent nature, his past sins, as well as his godhood.
Kratos was born in the city of Sparta where he grew up to be a fine warrior and married Lysandra, with whom he had a child named Calliope. However, unfortunately, Ares (the original God of War) tricked him into killing his wife and child. This incident was extremely traumatic for him and this eventually led him to kill Ares and ultimately his father, Zeus, for betraying him.
Later on, when Kratos left Greece, he traveled to the realm of Midgard, one of the nine realms of Norse mythology. There, he married Faye and had a son from her named Atreus. Like before, Kratos also had a fair share of his adventures in the Norse realm, but he wasn’t as ruthless as before but rather a repentant father and compassionate mentor.
